Foundry616 presents another exceptional night dedicated to the dynamic piano trio with pianist Mike Nock, drummer James Waples and special guest, bassist Jonathan Zwartz. Mike and Jonathan’s musical friendship bridges many years and has seen them perform world-wide in a variety of situations, including gigs with singer/songwriter Martha Marlowe, the New Zealand String Quartet and touring with violinist Nigel Kennedy. The chemistry sparked when they play together always ensures an exceptional night of music-making.
Mike Nock is a prolific composer and recording artist who has remained at the forefront of Australasian Jazz for over five decades, continuing to attract critical acclaim and delight audiences worldwide. His extensive background in a variety of genres with many of the world’s top musicians give his live performances a rarely heard breadth and depth. Based in Sydney since 1986, he previously spent 25 years in the USA working, touring and recording with many of the world’s top jazz artists.
Attracting many awards and honours over his lengthy career, in 2014 he was awarded the Don Banks Music Award, the most valuable individual music award in Australia. Also inducted into the Bell Awards Australian Jazz Hall of Fame and awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM), his biography SERIOUS FUN – the Life and Music of Mike Nock captures some of his illustrious career moments.
